My experience in LPU
I am working with Lovely Professional University, Phagwara.
Just thought of discussing my first job experience with my audience …
LPU, as it is abbreviated is located neither in Jallandhar nor in Phagwara, somewhere in between. The place is called Chehru; speak it out if you can pronounce it correctly, otherwise also its fun saying it aloud. Anyway, it’s a private university run by Lovely International Trust.
I had heard a lot about it and its professionalism, though when I got selected then that professionalism was talked about in some other terms, people said there’s lot workload and all run away within months and you too will. And I took it as a challenge. I joined it as soon as I completed my Masters in Journalism, August 2008. First few weeks were sheer fun, I had duty in CAD (Counseling and Admission) and whole day went talking to different people telling them career options after getting a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. I love talking so it was great.
Along with this I was also making new friends in CAD as well as in hostel. I can’t give their details but would like to share that they all were saying the same thing “you are too young for teacher’s job”. Strangely I was not happy hearing it. I used the word strangely because usually people are very happy when somebody says you are young. Isn’t it so?
Then I was sent to the department where all started. Here all is the work… real work.
I was happy knowing that beforehand all information will be available with me about the topic to taught, where to look for the subject matter, which book or site to refer and stuff like that. It was well until people started strange things. It is first experience for me and then I’m younger than them so they thought they can say whatever they want to say to me, and that too in the name of friendship. “Sonam, I’m your friend naa, bas itni dosti thi itna pyaar” I having no options kept quiet, because they all had same view on nothing else but me. I was upset, angry and feeling really low when angels came y way and guided how to deal with this situation and then I was least bothered about what they say, think, talk and discuss. I already had attitude problem (who cares) and then it was loaded with a new concept of ‘do hell with you’. Again Sonam was Sonam. This improved me and changed my attitude towards my work as well. I was better in it. Actually that’s way I think and I hope my students also think the same way. I feel they are satisfied from the kind of lectures given and activities are done in class.
